Since 2008, the name MonkeyJunk has been synonymous with the emergence of a new kind of blues on the Canadian and international scenes. Continually pushing boundaries and blurring genre lines, the Ottawa-based trio has added an edge to their music by incorporating swampy blues & rock with thoughtful and intelligent lyrics. MonkeyJunk is Tony D on lead guitar, Steve Marriner on lead vocals/baritone guitar/harmonica and Matt Sobb on drums. The band has released 5 full-length albums and are looking towards a sixth tentatively scheduled to be recorded and released in late 2021. As one of the hardest working bands on the scene today, these Canadian ambassadors of blues/rock are constantly working to up their game in terms of songwriting and musicianship, on record and especially live! 23 Maple Blues Awards, 2 Indy Awards, 1 USA Blues Music Award, 2 JUNO AWARDS!

Hope to see you at the Show!!!!

Southern Avenue at the KBD!

The Canada South Blues Society Chatham Kent is extremely proud to announce our Christmas Show, Saturday, December 8th, at the KBD Hall,  featuring Southern Avenue. Southern Avenue is an up and coming band that is taking the world by storm. We have been anticipating this show for some time and we think it may be the show of the year.

“Southern Avenue’s debut album is the beginning of a legacy…What we have here, is a young, yet seasoned group of artists, who took everything Memphis has to give, rubbed their own magic on it, and are delivering it to us in a single serving. It’s not blues, soul, Gospel or R&B. It’s all of the above, blended in such a way to create its very own category.”
American Blues Scene
“This debut album from Southern Avenue is the tastiest thing out of Memphis since Gus’s Fried Chicken went national. Sounding somewhat like the Staple Singers doing an album of bluesy southern rock, this band will be huge, mark my words…Fans of acts ranging from Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings to the Black Keys will find a lot to like here…”
Ink 19
“Tierinii Jackson’s voice is stadium quality. There’s much more BeyoncĂ© force than Memphis Minnie grit there, and it’s a blessing. To me, that’s what makes this band worth talking about. In addition to the ridiculous amount of talent you get by tallying everyone in this band, Southern Avenue is youthful and vibrant. They’re out here giving life to a genre too long dominated by people obsessed with emulating the past. And that’s a good deed done for blues fans everywhere.”
I Love Memphis

Our Christmas shows are always sold out shows, so please be sure to get your tickets early so you don't miss this show. Tickets for members are now $25, and for non members $30.Available at Hip Entertainment in Chatham, Kakoon Spa in Ridgetown, the KBD in Chatham, or call Bob at 519-676-9150 to reserve tickets and seating.

When it comes to an ability to belt out blues that bring your bones to a simmer, vocalist and bassist supreme Danielle Nicole is cut from the same soulful cloth as Etta James, Koko Taylor and Shemekia Copeland. In other words she is the vocal personification of everything blues fans love about the genre. She can be soft and sweet. She can be nurturing and wise. But mostly she can be wild.. An acclaimed singer and bassist who has won the admiration of critics, fans and fellow musicians alike, Danielle angelic, if rough-edged voice is destined to soar into the hearts of unsuspecting blues fans.
Danielle's distinctive, inventive bass work—which resulted in her becoming the first woman to win the Blues Foundation's 2014 Blues Music Award for Best Instrumentalist, Bass—is the product of years of intensive roadwork.

Duke Robillard Live

The CSBS (Chatham-Kent) is proud to announce our next show, Friday December 2nd, featuring a true Blues Legend, Duke Robillard.
What do Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Jay McShann, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, John Hammond, the late Jimmy Witherspoon, Dr. John, Maria Muldaur, Roomful of Blues, and the Canadian band The Rockin’ Highliners all have in common?
Answer: Duke Robillard
Guitarist. Bandleader. Songwriter. Singer. Producer. Session musician. And a one-man cheering section for the blues, in all its forms and permutations. And every one of those names has shared recording studio space or stage time with a man who is a legend in the blues community.
The Blues Music Awards (formerly W.C.Handy Awards) have named Duke Robillard "Best Blues Guitarist" four years out of five (2000,2001,2003,2004) making him the second most honored guitarist for that award! He was also nominated in that category in 2005, 2007 and again in 2008.
